COHEN SUMMARY: After reading analysis and doing my own, I’m going to offer this summary for those that don’t have time. Only a few of you are going to fully agree with me, and I expect full-throated derision from – well, you know who are.
I’ll start with what I think is the most important: Cohen made abundantly clear that IQ45 will not leave office willingly. Even if we are able to overcome gerrymandering, outright ELECTION FRAUD (which is different than “voter fraud”), and voter suppression.
This was not an aside, nor was it pondering. It was a deliberate warning to everyone in the Legislative Branch. He will not go quietly, period.
So, thinking this through and combining it with some other relevant information, the problem is that resignation, which is what should have occurred when he was confronted in May of 2017, has never been a palatable option for him.
The reason isn’t complicated. The Trump Organization is a criminal enterprise (RICO type), and will be completely dismantled, in the end. I now feel this is a certainty.
What Cohen did was give SDNY a backup by sharing information with Legislators who can investigate and coordinate without being shut down by the Executive Branch. Whether you think these are “process” or “garden variety” anything dismissive or diminutive, they are, in fact real crimes for which the likelihood of prison time is now 100% – because Cohen is, in fact, going to prison, and his co-conspirators (who are NOT cooperating) will be held to an equal or greater standard.
I also need to clear up the fact that there’s a difference between “intend” and “expect”. IQ45 “intended” to win, which means those around him would be able to verify that he spoke about winning all the time. No debate. But, he also knew that the odds were against him, and his backup plan was to use the “infomercial” of a campaign to elevate his brand, and then return to profits.
Once elected, however, his greed cemented his path. And, because he’s doing business with mobsters, they demanded he follow through. The 6-nation deal (USA, Russia, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and UAE) is starting to get exposure.
But, in order to pull it off, he needed to find corrupt partners within our government, and he presumed Comey simply had a price for his loyalty. Whether Comey is flawed is irrelevant. Comey didn’t go along, and the intelligence community was already aware. Comey’s firing simply made everyone in government choose a side.
The GOP picked the wrong side. They are complicit.
From that point forward, Trump’s actions are best explained by his realization from that point forward that his bridge back to private life at the Trump Organization is torched. Maybe nuked is actually appropriate here.
His only path forward is absolute power, not envisioned by the Constitution. So, when you hear “Deep State”, think “Oath to Constitution”.
So, going back to Cohen’s testimony, the key was the loyal person who did, in fact, think Trump’s Presidency was a good thing initially, realized that, in fact, after Helsinki, we are, in fact, being dragged into an autocracy. Well, not all of us are being dragged. Trump now has an army of white supremacists who are volunteering for the tiki-torch parade. And Cohen’s mention of Charlottesville as part of his motivation to turn then also becomes a significant factor.
And, while we’ve all been waiting for a Republican to turn, keep in mind that Cohen also admitted yesterday that he was literally forced to change his registration from Democrat to Republican before taking the VIP of Finance role at the RNC.
We have yet to see a single Republican to recognize that they are not keeping their oath to defend and protect the Constitution. Whether by ignorance or design, the mechanisms in place that should have kicked in by the time the Electoral College met are failing. The Founders never anticipated the combination of large numbers of traitors and the failure of our ability to ensure fair elections.
So, the last thought on this is that the National Emergency about the “wall”, isn’t about the wall. At. All.
This, as future historians will note, is the key event in consolidation of power, including the power of the purse, in the executive branch. The sing-songy thing Trump did in the Rose Garden where he predicted it winds up in the Supreme Court is the final step. If they hand it to him, it’s over.
It’s a pass/fail test. And, I am not offering a prediction.
If you’ve read this far, and you already understand, you probably had a physical reaction. Maybe chills, maybe a stomach churn, maybe blood pressure combined with emotions.
The bottom line: From today going forward, if you do not have a plan for removal of this President from office combined with actions that you yourself take to make it occur, then you are merely a spectator. We need citizens who recognize their civic duty to immediately put all available time and energy into actions to affect this change.
You don’t need a Mueller Report. You don’t need Mueller indictments. You need a plan, and I’d argue this plan includes a backup for escape and refuge. Very hard to type this, as I know this thought alone will be the fodder of ridicule and derision.
If you think those “baby jails” can’t be used on average citizens, particularly those who are not “loyal”, then you are the most likely to go first. And, your basement arsenal isn’t the solution.
If our Constitutional Demoracy is to survive, and this is not hyperbole, now is the time for you to pick a side. There is no both sides. This is not normal.
What Cohen made abundantly clear was that Donald J. Trump is cornered, he knows it, and he’s planning to take over or take us all down with him. Mark my words.
If you support him and have read this, make no mistake: I am not trying to defeat you. I’m not telling you to leave the country. I’m recruiting you, and asking you to search your soul and to look in the eyes of your family and friends.
When people ask in the future: What did you do to defend the Constitution and Democracy?
You’ll have to live with your answer. Consider very carefully.
